The Captain: Jason Hector
Place of Birth: Earth, Memphis , Tennessee
Age: 38 Race: Genetically Enhanced human
Marital status: Single, lots of flirts but no commitments
Physical appearance: Short dark brown hair, water-green eyes, very attractive to women, 1,79 m tall
Psychological Profile:
Brilliant and audacious, Jason Hector is a very determined man, who always completes his mission. But before the mission he puts his crew and is capable of anything for them, witch makes him a great leader.
Somewhat a free thinker and a radical, he abides the rules but bends them to the maximum if needed. This kind of behaviour that pushes him and the team to the limit makes Hector the perfect Captain for this project, although some more conservative Starfleet personnel fear he might turn a “loose cannon”.
Very self aware, he believes he can do pretty much what he sets out to do even if it takes his own sacrifice. He will get it done.
Character Story:
Jason Hector was born in Memphis , a very important place in the late 20th Century, for it was home of a popular icon called Elvis Presley. Hector grew up in it learning to listen and respect these heritages. So he became a late 20th Century music lover, in fact the music makes him feel closer to home and helps relaxing.
More than this meaningless information is difficult to obtain. He has off course passed trough Academy but there are no records of it, all his personnel files have been erased by Starfleet to ensure safety.
This man certainly has a mysterious past; there is only a small reference to a cadet Hector travelling as a passenger on the U.S.S. Tagus when a shuttlecraft crashed on an away security mission. No correlations could be established.
It is believed he was recruited out of Academy straight to the elite Section 31 force by its incredible qualities and has been since then in many ships and many worlds performing dangerous missions always undercover.
He is a Klingon/Federation war veteran although his activities are classified.
Only one man today seems to have some familiarity with him, Admiral Moore, who sometimes in private calls him “23”. Possibly he was his Commanding officer in some elite force team and calls him by a related code number.
No relatives are known tough their parents may still be living in a protection program under Federation custody with new identities and location.
The First Officer: Commander Rohan
Place of Birth: Planet Romulus , date unknown
Race: Romulan
Marital Status: Wife and children assassinated
Psychological Profile: Not available
Character Story:
Rohan is a direct descendent of the first Romulan captain ever to make visual contact with humans (back in the 23rd century) who choose to die with honour in battle.
His ancestor’s final words to Cpt. Kirk as recorded by history,” …In a different world I could have called you friend…” always echoed in his soul as an example to follow.
In a twist of fate he was sent to eliminate what the Senate called a group of rebels and terrorists following a ruthless attack were over 2000 were killed.
He failed and was captured, then learning they were no terrorists but a group of Romulan activists for peace between Romulans and Vulcans blamed by the attacks.
When presented to their leader, none other than former Cpt. Kirk’s first officer now Ambassador Spock, he began to understand better his own nature as he became more sympathetic to the group. Rohan was freed as a gesture of good faith.
Unfortunately, he did not receive the same mercy from the Romulan Senate and was dishonourably discharged in spite of being one of the most promising young Tal shiar officers.
When he tried to expose the so-called terrorist attack was in fact a senate plan to frame the movement, his wife and children were executed and Rohan was convicted for treason and sent to the Remus mines for life.
While under way, the transport was assaulted by Ambassador Spock’s organization and he was rescued into Federation space for safety.
The Federation granted him exile and Citizenship with full privileges, inviting him to join Starfleet with the rank of Commander, witch he gladly accepted as a mean to revenge and pursuing his forefather dream.
He was already in Starfleet service when Romulus was destroyed in 2387
The former Romulan officer is considered a valuable member to Starfleet: For his knowledge of the enemy, for his abilities to be as rational or logical as any Vulcan and as fearsome warrior as any Romulan without the barriers of self contained emotions.
At first, in spite of trying hard not to show it, Commander Rohan felt uneasy of serving under a human Captain. Like every Romulan he his too much arrogant and proud of his race to admit someone would do a better job of it, but his pledge to the cause and this people who saved him made it easier to accept.
Later, during a training exercise everything would change. While simulating command, Rohan made a rash and impetuous decision against the Captain’s advice and got some team mates and training officers injured.
During his court martial Cpt Hector testified he would have taken the same decision himself and that he was responsible for every action of his crew, adding he would not go on if the Romulan was to be relieved of dutty.
For Rohan, knowing Hector had lied for him was a great lesson on respect and leadership. From then on all his previous suspicions were gone and the two men even became close friends. He will now give his life without thinking for his friend and Captain.
The Security Officer: Lieutenant Commander Vixxa
Place of Birth: Klingon homeworld Qo’nos
Race: Klingon
Marital Status: unmated
Physical appearance: Massive muscular female, bodybuilder like forms
Psychological Profile:
Determined, defying and daring, Vixxa always prefers a good fight to any negotiation, for her there is no easy way out. She is somewhat unstable with many mood variances and tendencies to violence under pressure, due to her Klingon blood. Only a full human education prevents that from happening often.
However, she is loyal and reliable to any commanding officer giving great importance to the chain of command.
Deprived of fear there is no better element to have on an away team in the most dangerous missions.
Character Story:
During the second Klingon civil war in 2376, Vixxa’s father and mother settled on Earth where they joined Starfleet. 10 years later her mother died while giving birth to her and her twin brother who would not survive labour.
The nurse assisting it, Helen Martin, saved the girl.
Named after her mother, Vixxa grew up on Earth in the beautiful shores of California where the Martin’s lived.
As one of the most prominent Starfleet historians, George Martin was able to educate his daughter the human way and yet preserve her Klingon heritage.
Like any California girl, beach, surf and sun were her life but as she grew out of the teens and apprehended the klingon way, she started resenting the human girls she knew considering them futile, fragile, without purpose.
Although with many friends, comprehensibly, Vixxa was kind of an outcast in the matters of love, so she soon started working out and pushing her body to the limit, studying the Klingon art of war, and pursuing a career in Starfleet. When joining the Academy she was already lethal enough if needed.
More than her physical and self trained strategic abilities, the Klingon blood pushed her right to the top of her class being recruited by Starfleet to VIP security coordination where she made pretty good connections.
When project Nautilus was approved she was seen as the perfect security officer.
One of the first assignments of her new position was to study thoroughly all crewmembers. In doing it two of them stood out:
Cmdr Rohan: For any Klingon a Romulan seems suspicious enough but as she accessed the man’s file and learned about his life story, she soon started to grow respect for him.
Doctor Mina Hartley was the most difficult crewmember to accept. Former Model, being the only pure human on board, reminded Vixxa of those teenagers she had grown up to despise as weak and meaningless.
At first she made the doctor’s life pretty much miserable showing her all the disgust Hartley induced on her, but in the final training missions something happened.
During manoeuvres on the moon training camp, Vixxa’s shuttlecraft had a warp core breach and crashed. The accident’s violence and the warp core radiation left her in deep coma with multiple internal wounds. When Starfleet gave up any hope on her and prepared to disconnect the life support equipment, Dr. Hartley asked for one more month and took upon her the responsibility to bring Vixxa back to life genetically reconstructing the internal organs one by one. Feeling grateful to the human, she ultimately accepted Mina as part of the crew.
In fact, and that troubles Vixxa very much, she finds herself growing affectionate, even overprotective towards Dr. Hartley although she swears never to show it.
The Medical Officer: Mina Hartley
Place of Birth: London
Age: 33 Race: Human
Marital status: Single
Physical appearance: 90-60-90, Blond hair
Psychological Profile:
With elevated IQ, even brilliant with high learning and strategic abilities in spite being just a medical officer.
Very perceptive and observant, is very emotional with her patients, the crew sometimes turn to her as some kind of ships counsellor.
Character Story:
Mina Hartley was born in London , daughter of a wealthy family, her great beauty soon made an impression with the high society she grew up in. As a result she was a model at age 14, and one of the most solicited and well succeeded at 18. Her great heart and compassion always felt imprisoned in such a futile activity so she decided to give it all up and went to medical school where she graduated top of her class and one of the best ever.
When a cousin of her died for lack of medical care on a far Federation outpost near the Romulan Neutral Zone, Mina enlisted herself on Starfleet. After completing the Academy she was commissioned for a five-year mission aboard the hospital ship U.S.S Myanmar.
On the beginning of the third year she was recruited for “project Nautilus”.
The idea of making everything her way, sometimes the hardest, brought her to refuse being genetically altered.
As one of the most prominent medical officers available, and due to the time deadlines on the project, Starfleet had no choice but to agree with the condition, making Dr. Hartley the only “pure” human on board. At first she felt segregated by the others, but they soon accustomed themselves to her condition in spite of trying to protect her as much as possible in the most dangerous missions, a fact that sincerely irritates Mina.
Romantically her life was not as fulfilled as one would think. The great beauty always brought up the worse on men around her, for whom she was seen only as an object, never respected for her immense qualities. This made her shut down from personal relationships, hence becoming somewhat uneasy in those matters.
After arriving on “Nautilus” project Mina encountered great animosity even belligerence from Vixxa, the security officer, who treated her as worst as possible and made her life miserable. She didn’t understand why and tried to get over it although it really started to get on her nerves, especially, because she respected the Klingon woman for her courage and determination. It reminded Mina of the kind of person she aimed to be, strong and self-assured.
It was that admiration that made her dedicate herself to save the Lt. Commander’s life after her training accident on the moon. Trough the same procedures used by Dr. Beverly Crusher to replace Worf’s spine, hence saving the then Enterprise ’s officer life, Dr. Hartley literally reconstructed Vixxa’s body and internal organs.
After long months of care in the brink of exhaustion, Mina had her reward as Vixxa fully recovered from the injuries.
From that moment a bond was established between the two of them as the Klingon felt grateful to the human for life. The tricky part is Vixxa as gradually become very affectionate of Mina, in a way somewhat strange for the doctor. The even stranger part is that Hartley doesn’t feel uncomfortable by it.
Anyway, whatever it is, none of them have really wanted to talk about it yet and maybe never will…
The Pilot: Ensign Adam “Cowboy” Cartwright
Place of Birth: San Francisco , Earth
Age: 24 Race: Genetically Enhanced Human
Marital status: The word marital doesn’t exist in his vocabulary.
Psychological Profile:
Virtually gifted to pilot every machine invented so far, over confident and probably the most irreverent cadet to fly out of the academy.
He fits the profile of the Wild West American pioneers: lonesome and adventurous, whose latest hope is to go out in a blaze of glory. For that he earned the call sign “Cowboy” in the Academy days.
Danger equals fun equals pleasure in Cartwright’s mind, he flies a shuttlecraft like old Top Gun Naval Aviators flew an F-14 Tomcat, there are no limits to this adrenalin addicted young man.
His skills made him the ideal choice for trying the very new Manta fighter.
Oddly enough he shows undisputed respect for Cpt. Hector following his orders to the letter. It’s the only person that can really get trough him.
Character Story:
Adam Cartwright was born in San Francisco 24 years ago where he grew up as normally as any kid in a healthy familiar environment.
Soon he demonstrated his pleasure for dangerous, radical games and experiences. In order to control those instincts, his parents put him in gymnastics class where he turned out to be an excellent athlete wining several prizes over 15 years until he joined Starfleet Academy . There, adding to his top of the class grades, he continued to “show of” in all physical disciplines. Getting used to being some sort of a hero to his classmates was easy enough, leading him to exhibitionism.
The “need for speed” took him to become a pilot, the best ever in star fleet. Or so he thought…
Being considered the best pilot of all time on the Academy records was a lifetime glory for young Cartwright when he was drafted for project Nautilus.
But there he met Cpt. Jason Hector. As Admiral Moore, the project mentor, told him the Captain was even better but his records had been erased years ago for safety reasons, it was as if the sky had fall on the ensign’s head. He took it like a personal offence, wanted to quit the project but Hector didn’t let him. Instead, he challenged the youngster to the most difficult flying skills test possible, and won!
From then on, he would have to settle for being 2nd best, which he gladly does. At the same time, the Captain became a mentor to him, the only person he truly respects besides himself.
The Engineer: Lieutenant Commander Alexander Romankov
Place of Birth: Belarus
Age: 40 Race: Genetically Enhanced Human
Marital status: Engaged to Eulanka Parker, Officer serving on SFCE (Star Fleet Corps of Engineers)
Psychological Profile:
Friendly, obsessed by perfection, responsible and very joyful, witch makes him an equilibrium factor serving on a crew under great stress.
Romankov is the third man in the chain of command aboard Nautilus and a most reliable officer that leaves the Cpt. and the Second Officer at ease while the two of them are out of the ship.
Character Story:
Alexander Romankov was born on the Belarus territories 40 years ago in a family of Starfleet officers that kept moving through many places where he developed the taste for fixing everything.
With an exemplar curriculum from kindergarten to Starfleet academy he served for 3 years on space station Deep Space 3, one of the oldest, where he earned the title of “Mr. Miracle”. He used to say “If I can prevent this bucket from crashing into the planet’s atmosphere, I can keep anything on the air”.
At a time a SFCE ship passed in the sector and went to repairs on DS3. An attractive ensign came on board and they fell in love becoming engaged. Romankov calls her “Eulie” and expects her to marry him, someday…
The remarkable job on repairing the violently attacked SFCE ship by a ferengi pirate convoy earned high remarks and references within Starfleet council. His career on DS3 was followed closely from then on, so when project Nautilus was considered Alexander was the most valuable candidate. Excellent Academy grades and various commendations for valour on several away missions were also important in the final decision.
Everyone on the crew likes the engineer, sometimes when things get worse it is his joyful spirit and optimism that keeps them going, a truly moral officer. Even the less humoured Vixxa and Rohan tolerate his jokes and even find him funny.
The Weapons Officer: Lieutenant John Centurio
Place of Birth: Deep Space, aboard a civil freighter
Age: 35 Race: Genetically Enhanced Human
Marital status: Single but is currently in a relationship with Nora Ramos
Psychological Profile: Not Available
Character Story:
John Centurio is the only enlisted human officer who did not attend Starfleet Academy . He was a liberation soldier of the Planet Thundra colony.
He was known for outstanding accomplishments with explosives and weapons but went dissident because of the unorthodox methods used by that organisation.
John turned himself in to Starfleet Command after refusing to participate in a plan to take hostage a merchant convoy to a far Federation outpost (Exactly the kind of transport he was born in).
His precious help in controlling that situation without casualties to both sides earned him full pardon and integration into Starfleet, where he conducted several other undercover missions.
The past life experience and the fact he has no known relatives made him a preferential subject to the Nautilus project.
His past is almost as mysterious as the Cpt’s. The similarities between the two men’s past added to Commander Rohan experience created a strong relationship between the three.
The project coordinator: Admiral Antoine George Moore
Place of Birth: Aruba
Age: 62 Race: Human
Marital status: Divorced
Psychological Profile: Not Available
Character Story:
Admiral Moore is a survivor of every major conflict Starfleet was involved for the last 50 years starting with a commission on the Marines assault ship USS Guadalcanal during the Dominion War. He was aged 19 at the time.
Somewhere in time he was Capt. Hector’s Commanding officer, probably in Section 31 Expeditionary Taskforce 23. He’s the closest Hector has for family, at least known family, and the only person he completely confides in.
His tough as nails reputation doesn’t go well with his birth names, Antoine George, and he prefers to be called simply A. G.
Sometimes Jason Hector teases him with that.
The Communications Officer : Lieutenant Nora Ramos
Place of Birth: New Lisbon colony, Mars
Age: 31 Race: Enhanced Human
Marital status: Currently in a relationship with John Centurio
Psychological Profile: Very bright and intelligent, Nora has an extreme radical side to her. Fearless and sassy.
Character Story:
Nora Ramos graduated with top honours in linguistics and diplomacy from Starfleet Academy .
She was offered a permanent position as an interpreter in Federation council, but her adventurous side made her refuse it.
She applied for Starfleet special forces and was on the waiting list for section 31.
One evening she was accompanying her uncle (who is a Starfleet officer) to a dinner reception of the new Federation council telarite ambassadors.
During the event an extremist group kidnapped the ambassadors and made hostages of the guests.
Her courage dealing with the hostage situation as much as her ability to negotiate with the captors as liaison with Starfleet military caught the attention of one of the other guests, Admiral A.G. Moore.
Impressed by her skills and behaviour under pressure he invited her to the “Nautilus” project.
During the training missions she fell in love with John Centurio. Her relationship is well known by the rest of the crew but they keep it discrete while on duty.
She serves as a communication officer but is often assigned to negotiations and diplomatic duties by her captain.
